Kotoko Edge Out Bechem United : Asante Kotoko have advanced to the Round of 32 of the MTN FA up following their penalty shootout victory over Bechem United at the Babayara sports stadium on Monday.
The Porcupine Warriors won the shootout by 4-2 with Richmond Lamptey converting Kotoko’s fourth kick as goalkeeper Frederick Asare saved two Bechem attempts.
Uganda attacker Steven Mukwala put Kotoko ahead in the 5th minute of the Round of 64 match before realizing a brace just three minutes later.
Bechem fought back to pull a goal back through Isaiah Nyarko in the 18th minute and in the seond half the visitors equalized with a Francis Twene 70th minute deflected free-kick to make it 2-2.
The brace means Mukwala has now scored five goals already this season across all events for Asante Kotoko.
Kotoko last won the FA Cup in 2017 whilst Hearts of Oak are winners of the last two editions.
Meanwhile Bechem United , losing finalists of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup , now has only the Ghana Premier League as their only means of silverware this season.
