“They know nothing about the proper Hearts of Oak tradition” – Maxwell Asabre reveals how Odotei Sowah and Alhaji Akanbi came to Hearts of Oak through the backdoor !

Maxwell Asabre Makes Odotei and Akanbi Revelations : Maxwell Asabre , a former General Secretary of Accra Hearts of Oak National Chapters Council , has revealed how Hearts of Oak board members Alhaji Brimah Akanbi and Vincent Odotei Sowah came to the club.

The duo have come under serious criticisms in recent times in terms of their management of the Continental Club Masters and Asabre , a staunch Hearts of Oak supporter, reveals what Akanbi and Odotei lack as top officials of the club.

“At first , before anyone becomes a Hearts of Oak official , you must have served the club for a considerable period of time before you get the promotion to key positions of the club.

Either you rise from the Chapters level then to the management , then you go to the board to serve and finally you could join the council of patrons of the club in order for you help the club with your experience but that changed when Togbe Afede XIV became the majority share holder” , Maxwell Asabre said on Kumasi-based Fox FM.

“That was the Hearts of Oak tradition that we came to meet but that is not the case now. Look at the times of Tommy Thompson , Professor Mills , Atto Quayson , Bob Mensah , Alhaji Hearts and many others. All of them had served the club for a long time and so they learned the real rudiments of leading the club.

The moment this tradition was cut off in 2012 was the beginning of the decline of Hearts of Oak.” , Asabre explained.

“Names such as Alhaji Akanbi and co all came to meet us at the club. Akanbi came to Hearts in 2008 , he said he is from Nigeria and he is the vice president of Hearts of Oak supporters union in Nigeria that is Chapter 8.

Nobody knew him before but at that time there was a division between Atto Quayson and Neil Armstrong camp and that was how Akanbi became NCC chairman. He did not become a management member. We later voted him out as the NCC chairman and at that time the floatation of shares was in place.

So as NCC Chairman ,  Akanbi became part of the new Hearts of Oak board formed under Togbe Afede after he became the majority share holder of the club. Somehow along the line , whether in a good way or bad way Togbe started to trust and like him (Akanbi).

Even when Akanbi lost the NCC chairmanship position , he was to leave the board but he was till maintained on it by Togbe Afede because he likes him.

So the real rudiment of joining a chapter and going through it to become a management member before becoming a board of director , Akanbi never passed through this. He just came to the club and became a board member”

“The same applies to Vincent Odotei Sowah. It was in 2008 that Kurt Okraku brought him to Hearts of Oak. They all came to meet us in Hearts of Oak. We never knew him as a Hearts of Oak supporter. Odotei came to Hearts of Oak just like that , you understand me.

So the mistake they made was that for these two people who are leading the club at the moment (Akanbi and Odotei) , they did not learn the proper tradition of the club and that is the negative outcome we are all seeing now” , Maxwell Asabre concluded.

The Phobians were battered 5-1 at home by Medeama SC during Week 31 of the Ghana Premier League last weekend as they lie 7th on the standings with 45 points.
