Nyantakyi on Asante Kotoko : The former Ghana Football Association President believes Ghanaian clubs have failed to excel in Africa because they lack quality.

Asante Kotoko are the recent Ghanaian side to fail in Africa following their CAF Champions League elimination by Burkina Faso champions RC Kadiogo.

Hearts of Oak are the only Ghanaian club remaining in Africa as they prepare to face Mali’s AS Real Bamako in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors won 1-0 against RC Kadiogo in Cotonou but bottled it up in the second leg in front of a strong crowd as they lost the game by 1-0 in regulation time. In the ensuing penalty shoot-outs , the champions of Ghana were defeated 3-1.

Former FIFA Council member Nyantakyi appears to tell Kotoko “you cannot have your cake and eat it too”.

“Ghanaians clubs do not do well in Africa because of quality. In the case of Asante Kotoko they always sell their best players. If you sell your best players to the teams you compete against in Africa , you don’t expect them to do well.” Kwasi Nyantakyi was quoted to have told Kings TVGH Sports.

2021/22 Ghana Premier League second top scorer Franck Etouga Mbella (21 goals) , left back Imoro Ibrahim , midfielder Mudasiru Salifu and Ismail Ganiyu were some of the key players as Kotoko won the league title last season but none of them took part in the African campaign of Kotoko this season and all are no more at the club.
