Ogum Cannot Rebuild Kotoko in One Season : Asante Kotoko legend, Wilberforce Mfum, has made a heartfelt appeal to the club’s fans, urging them to exhibit patience and support as the team strives to bounce back from a poor 2022/23 season.
The 86-year-old football icon has implored the loyal supporters to stand by the team during challenging times.
The Porcupine Warriors faced a setback in the 2022/23 season, as they failed to retain their Premier League title, ultimately finishing in the fourth position.
One of the glaring low points of their campaign was the noticeable decline in attendance at their home grounds, the Baba Yara Stadium, which impacted the team’s morale and atmosphere.
In light of these challenges, there have been significant efforts to rejuvenate the team’s performance and regain their winning form.
Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum’s reappointment as head coach and a renewed commitment by club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to rebuild have brought a sense of optimism and hope for the future.
Wilberforce Mfum, who is widely regarded as an Asante Kotoko great and has left an indelible mark on the club’s history, has called upon the fans to be understanding during this transitional phase.
“You can’t rebuild a team in a year. They (Kotoko fans) have to be patient because as a team you can win, lose, or draw.
“When we lose, we must accept it and correct our mistakes and move on. There is no team that can play 20 matches without losing. Let’s accept that we are training these young lads as the future of the team,” he told Kessben Sports.
