Ati Zigi to be No. 1 : After keeping a clean sheet against Switzerland in Thursday’s pre-World Cup friendly match , Lawrence Ati Zigi is in line to nail down the first choice goalkeeping spot of the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Joseph Wollacot and Richard Ofori were widely expected to be Ghana’s first two goalkeepers in Qatar but last-minute injuries ruled the duo out of the World Cup.
Otto Addo selected three goalkeepers in his 26-man squad for the World Cup finals ; Ati Zigi , Manaf Nurudeen and Danlad Ibrahim of Asante Kotoko.
The Ghana coach decided to the St. Gallen keeper against Switzerland on Thursday , a game won by the Ghanaians by 2-0 and due to the fact that many coaches all over the world hardly change their goalkeepers , Ati Zigi is in pole position to start against Portugal on November 24th in Ghana’s 2022 World Cup group opener.
Under normal circumstance , It is unlikely for Danlad or Manaf to start against the Portuguese when they did not play any minutes in the team’s final warm-up match against the Swiss.
