Team Doctor Manuel Afonso : Sadio Mané will not be able to play a the 2022 FIFA World Cup after team doctor of the Senegal national team Manuel Afonso deemed him unfit to compete in Qatar.
Injured at the right fibula the Bayern Munich forward is forfeited for the competition, the Senegalese Football Federation has officially announced.
“Unfortunately, today’s (Thursday) MRI shows us that the evolution is not favorable as we imagined and we unfortunately decide to withdraw Sadio from the World Cup,” the Senegal team doctor Manuel Afonso said in a video published on the Senegal Football Federation Twitter account.
Mané got injured on November 8th with Bayern during a Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen.
Aliou Cisse included the former Liverpool winger in his final World Cup squad hoping that his reovers in time before Senegal’s World Cup opener against the Netherlands on November 21st but unfortunately things did not go as expected and the World Cup will be played without the reigning African footballer of the year.
