Olivier Giroud : The Blues arrived in Doha on Wednesday ahead of the commencement of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
Giroud and Aurélien Tchouameni talked to the media during the press conference of the defending world champions on Thursday afternoon.
“To be honest, we’ve only been sleeping since we arrived,” laughs Aurélien Tchouameni. But the two players were still able to talk about the climatic and reception conditions in Qatar.
“I expected worse, more heat. These are great infrastructures, everything is in place to make you feel good. I hope that we will stay as long as possible in this hotel,” explained the Real Madrid midfielder.
Same story from the side of Olivier Giroud who did not seem worried by the stifling heat specific to Doha.
“It’s better than playing here in July. It’s still 30 degrees, but it’s a pretty stifling heat. The first match, we have the chance to play late. Later, the staff will make sure that we adapt to the heat. But I remember the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where we played in Brasilia at more than 30 degrees at 1 p.m. against Nigeria.”
The AC Milan striker was especially amazed by the reception of the supporters in front of the hotel. Supporters who came mainly from Indian fan clubs.
“I was pleasantly surprised. We were well received. We received a warm welcome in the hotel lobby. Reminds me of Russia. I didn’t know there were so many Indians supporting us (laughs). It warms our hearts, especially since there are a billion of them.
France take on Australia on Tuesday November 22nd , Denmark four days later and wrap up their group play against African side Tunisia on November 30th.
