Lionel Messi equals Maradona and Stábile World Cup scoring record for Argentina

Messi Equals Maradona and Stábile Record : Lionel Messi has equalled the FIFA World Cup scoring record of Argentines Diego Maradona and Guillermo Stábile after the PSG attacker scored a stunning goal against Mexico on Saturday.

On eight goals , the former Barcelona playmaker is now level with the legendary Maradona and Stábile. Both Maradona and PSG’s iconic number ten needed 21 matches to reach the tally but Stábile netted his eight strikes in four matches at the 1930 FIFA World Cup as he finished as the top scorer of the first ever World Cup held.

Day Seven at the 2022 FIFA World Cup was wrapped up by Argentina’s 2-0 success over Mexico at the Lusail Iconic stadium. La Pulga finished the game with a goal , an assist and the official man of the match award. He opened the scoring with a terrific trademark shot from outside the box. Angel di Maria assisted him.

Three minutes from time , Messi then set up Enzo Fernandez to score the second goal for La Albiceleste.

Lionel Messi now has the obvious advantage to move ahead of the Napoli legend and Guillermo Stábile as he aims at the all-time Argentina record held by Gabriel Batistuta who netted 10 goals in 12 World Cup games for the South Americans.
