Former Chelsea Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi Reportedly Agrees to Play for Ghana

Callum Hudson-Odoi to Play for Ghana: Multiple reports in the local media have suggested that Callum Hudson-Odoi has decided to play for Ghana.

The former Chelsea star has been on the radar of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for many years.

Despite having represented England at the U16, U17, U18, U19, and U21 levels, the GFA remained hopeful of securing the services of the 23-year-old.

After several attempts to get him to play for the Black Stars, Odoi turned down the request including the opportunity to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

However, after several meetings with the President of the Ghana Football Association and Otto Addo, Hudson-Odoi has finally given his yes to play for the four-time African champions.

He is expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Hudson-Odoi, who visited Ghana last September, previously described playing for the Black Stars as a promising option but had not ruled out playing for England.

“That decision hasn’t been made yet. I’m still thinking it over. Ghana is a very good option, but let’s wait and see,” the 22-year-old London-born player told The Telegraph.

“Hopefully, once I start playing games here, maybe Gareth [Southgate] or Ghana will come calling. It’s a nice position to be in, and hopefully, sooner or later, we will know.”

Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Hudson-Odoi has represented England at all levels, including earning three senior caps. However, he remains eligible to play for the Black Stars under FIFA rules.

His visit to Ghana in 2021 sparked rumours of an imminent switch to the Black Stars, but it did not materialize until now.

In the recently concluded Premier League season, Callum Hudson-Odoi made 29 appearances and scored eight goals.
