Cisse on Saliou Ciss : Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse did not select left -back Saliou Ciss in his 26-man squad list for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The 33-year old defender who won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations as Senegal’s first choice left-back has been without a club since July 2022 after leaving Ligue 2 side Nancy.

Cissé spoke explained the non-selection of Saliou Ciss on Friday :

“Saliou, for the 7 years that I have been here, I have difficult and painful decisions that I have to make. The Senegal national team has reached a certain level today which means that we must be attentive to the criteria for non-selection. Today it is difficult to select a player who does not have a club.

We have been with him from the start, I have no doubt that he will return to this selection when his situation is resolved. But it is very important today to send a strong signal to all the other Senegalese players that to come to this team there are criteria to be met.

And the first is to have a club. And that is for the respect we have for Saliou and the federation.” Aliou Cisse explained.

THE FULL SQUAD:

Seny Dieng (Queens Park Rangers), Alfred Gomis (Stade Rennes), Eduoard Mendy (Chelsea)
