Conde Faces Ibrahim Tanko : Mozambique U23 National Team play at home against the Black Meteors of Ghana on Sunday in the first leg match of the 2023 CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
One area of attention is the dug-outs. Two former internationals lead their respective teams ; Chiquinho Conde for Mozambique and Ibrahim Tanko for Ghana.
Conde is also the head coach of both Mozambique national team and the Mozambique CHAN team. He has already qualified the CHAN team for the next CHAN tournament slated for Algeria in early 2023 and is searching for another qualification success.
The 56-year old played for several Portuguese clubs including Sportin CP and Braga and earned 43 caps for the Mozambique national team scoring 12 goals between 1986 and 2001.

Ibrahim Tanko , on the other hand is winner of the UEFA Champions League with Dortmund as a player. He also won some caps for the Black Stars. Tanko is expected to take the Black Meteors to their second ever U23 AFCON finals participation after reaching the semi-finals in 2019.
The match is expected to take place at the Estádio do Zimpeto in Maputo. The kick off is 1pm local Ghana time.
Ghana enter the qualification tournament in the Second Round. Meanwhile Mozambique defeated Mauritius back to back (3-0 victory at home and 2-1 win away ) during the First Round to advance to this current stage.
In the Black Meteors , Mozambique , who are currently hosting the 2022 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations , face a much credible opposition.
About the CAF U23 AFCON :
The tournament was founded in 2011. On 6 August 2015, the CAF Executive Committee decided to change the name of the tournament from the CAF U-23 Championship to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.
In July 2016, Total has secured an eight-year sponsorship package from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to support 10 of its principal competitions.
