Ghana at World Cup 2026 Match Guide: The Black Stars are set for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup as Ghana head to North America for the 2026 global showpiece.

Having previously featured in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022, Ghana will be aiming to make another memorable impact on football’s biggest stage.

The Black Stars secured qualification under former coach Otto Addo, who successfully guided the national team to consecutive World Cup tournaments after also leading the Black Stars to Qatar 2022.

However, Addo will not be on the touchline in North America after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with him following friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March 2026.

Ghana will instead be led by experienced Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz, who faces the difficult task of turning around Ghana’s form ahead of the tournament.

🎯 Leading the process. 💪🏾

Ghana at World Cup 2026 match guide

Preparations for the World Cup have been far from ideal. Ghana head into the competition without a victory in their last six matches, losing five and drawing one.

To say the team’s defence has been porous would be an understatement, having conceded in each of theese six matches for a total of 13 goals while scoring just one.

The Black Stars’ most recent victory came during the final round of the CAF World Cup qualifiers when they defeated Comoros 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12, 2025.

Mohammed Kudus scored the decisive goal in the 47th minute to secure all three points and help Ghana complete their qualification campaign successfully.

Despite their struggles in friendly matches, the World Cup offers Ghana a fresh opportunity to rediscover their competitive edge.

Ghana’s Group L Opponents

The four-time African champions have been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

England are among the tournament favourites and possess one of the strongest squads in world football. Croatia, meanwhile, continue to be a dangerous tournament side with vast international experience, while Panama will be eager to cause an upset.

The group promises to be one of the most competitive at the tournament, with every point likely to prove crucial.

Ghana’s World Cup 2026 fixture schedule

Ghana vs Panama

Date: June 17, 2026

Venue: Toronto Stadium, Canada

Kick-off: 11:00 PM (Ghana time)

Queiroz’s men begin their campaign against Panama in what could be a decisive opening fixture. A positive result would significantly boost the Black Stars’ chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

It is worth noting that the Black Stars have won just one of their four opening matches at the World Cup finals, a 1-0 victory against Serbia at South Africa 2010 as Asamoah Gyan converted an 85th-minute penalty.

In the first group stage fixtures of the 2006, 2014, and 2022 World Cups, Ghana lost to Italy 2-0, USA 2-1, and Portugal 3-2, respectively.

England vs Ghana

Date: June 23, 2026

Venue: Gillette Stadium, USA

Kick-off: 8:00 PM (Ghana time)

The Black Stars face The Three Lions in one of the most anticipated matches involving an African nation at the tournament, with all eyes on how the Ghanaian backline can contain a certain Harry Kane who racked up 61 goals in the 2025-26 season for Bayern Munich.

Croatia vs Ghana

Date: June 27, 2026

Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, USA

Kick-off: 9:00 PM (Ghana time)

The country of Abedi Ayew Pele then conclude their group-stage campaign against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia, as FIFA indicates on its official website.

Depending on earlier results, this fixture could determine whether the Black Stars advance to the knockout rounds.

Ghana’s all-time World Cup record

The Ghana national football team has established themselves as one of Africa’s most recognised World Cup nations.

World Cup record:

  • Matches played: 15
  • Wins: 5
  • Draws: 3
  • Losses: 7
  • Goals scored: 18
  • Goals conceded: 23

The Black Stars’ best performance remains their historic quarter-final run in South Africa in 2010, when they came within a penalty shootout of becoming the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final.

According to the BBC, the contest against Uruguay at Soccer City ended 1-1 after extra time, with the South Americans prevailing 4-2 on penalties.

While the current Ghanaian formation lacks the quality and consistency of the 2006 and 2010 squads, Carlos Queiroz and his 26 Black Stars will hope to write another memorable chapter in the country’s World Cup history when the tournament kicks off on June 11, 2026.
