Saudi Defeat Argentina : Saudi Arabia staged one of the greatest comebacks in the FIFA World Cup history to defeat Argentina by 2-1 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Tuesday morning during the first match of the 2022 World Cup Group C.
This historic victory however came at a cost as six different Saudi players were booked and two players ; Salman Al Faraj and Yasser Al Shahrani went out injured.
Lionel Messi put the Argentines ahead with a penalty in the 10th minute as the South Americans ended the first half with a slim advantage.
However the Saudis , ultra defensive for majority of the game , equalized just three minutes into the second half as Al-Shehri wearing shirt number eleven beat Tottenham defender Cristian Romero with great speed before beating goalkeeper Emiliiano Martinez with his strike.
The most craziest part of the match came in the 53rd minute when the unfancied side went ahead. Al-Dawsari fired a missile into the roof of Martinez’s goal to make it 2-1 for Saudi Arabia. Completely unbelievable as the team managed by Herve Renard saw very little of the ball.
This defeat means Argentina who were unbeaten in their last 36 games fail to match Italy’s unbeaten world record of 37 matches.
