Uruguay Lead Ghana : Uruguay lead Ghana by 2-0 in a crucial World Cup group match on Friday as history repeats itself with the Black Stars missing a penalty against the South Americans.

Flamengo RJ midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta netted in the 26th and 32nd minutes to give Uruguay a commanding lead. Skipper Luis Suarez was involved in the creation of both goals.

Andre Ayew saw his effort from the spot saved by Uruguay goalkeeper Rochet in the 21st minute after Kudus Mohammed was brought down in the box by Rochet.

The Video Assistant Referee was used to ascertain whether the Ajax man was truly fouled by the Uruguayan keeper but Ghana skipper Ayew failed to put his team ahead from twelve yards out.

Five minutes after Ghana’s penalty miss , Uruguay took the lead through Arrascaeta who headed home from close range after Black Stars goalkeeper Ati Zigi parried Suarez’s shot.

Uruguay increased in confidence and scored their second and for the second time Suarez showed great composure in the box to set up the Flamengo man whose powerful strike went under Ati Zigi.

Ayew’s penalty failure is a repeat of Asamoah Gyan’s against Uruguay during the 2010 World Cup quarterfinal in South Africa. Gyan failed to score from the spot in the 120th minute after Luis Suarez deliberately handled Dominic Adiyiah’s header on the goal line.
