Ronaldo Sets Scoring Record in Saudi Arabia: Thanks to his double scored against Al Ittihad on Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo became the holder of the record for most goals scored by a player in a single season in the Saudi championship.
Even at 39, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to set records.
Author of the first two goals of Al Nassr, Monday, during the match of the last day of the 2024 Saudi Pro League against Al Ittihad (4-2), the Portuguese striker became the top scorer in the history of the Saudi championship on a single season, in 50 editions.
With 35 goals in 31 matches, the five-time Ballon d’or winner dethroned the Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah, author of 34 goals in 2018-2019, also with Al Nassr.
After officially breaking the record, Ronaldo was replaced by coach Luis Castro in the 74th minute ahead of Friday’s Saudi Cup final against Al Hilal.
The Portuguese could offer himself a second title this season after the Arab Cup for Champion Clubs won in August, against rival Riyadh (2-1).
He also had an almost perfect season, winning the Championship without conceding a single defeat (31 wins, 3 draws, 101 goals scored, 23 conceded) as well as the Super Cup.
Since August 2023, the team coached by Jorge Jesus has only conceded two losses: against Al Aïn (2-4) in the Asian Champions League, and Al Nassr, in the Arab Cup of Champion Clubs final (1-2).
After Friday’s Cup final, CR7 will look forward to the 2024 European Championship.
Ronaldo, the most capped player (205) and top scorer (128) in the history of national teams will play his 6th tournament of this kind.
Portugal are placed in the same group as Turkey, Georgia and the Czech Republic.
