Benzema Out of the WC : Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is officially forfeited for the 2022 FIFA World Cup , the French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed.

“I am extremely sad for Karim who set this World Cup as a major objective. Despite this new blow for the French team, I have full confidence in my group. We will do everything to meet the immense challenge that awaits us, ” France coach Didier Deschamps said as quoted by the FFF.

The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner was hit in the quadriceps of his left thigh during Saturday’s training in Doha. In pain , the lethal striker failed to complete the session.

Subsequently Benzema underwent an MRI scan at a hospital in Doha and unfortunately there was bad news from the doctors. A femoral rectus injury was confirmed which will require a three-week recovery period meaning the former Lyon attacker could not be part of the 22nd FIFA World Cup tournament in history.

This is another huge blow against the defending World champions after Christopher Nkunku was also ruled out of the Qatar tournament though injury on Tuesday.

Elsewhere during the week , the forfeiture of Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane for the Qatar World Cup was confirmed by team doctor of the Senegal Football Federation. The former Liverpool winger has since undergone surgery in Austria and has began the rehabilitation process.
