World Cup Day Seven Wrap : Paris Saint – Germain attackers Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi grabbed the headlines during Day Seven of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday.

GhanaSportsMarket.com has wrapped up what happened on Day Seven at the on-going Mundial in Qatar.

France became the first team to advance to the knockout round of the World Cup after The Blues defeated Denmark by 2-1 at the Stadium 974 in Doha for their second victory of the competition.

Kylian Mbappe put the defending champions ahead in the 61st minute after he received a clever pass from Theo Hernandez in the box. The Danes fought back to equalize just seven minutes later as Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen slotted home an equalizer following a corner kick. With the two teams levelled at 1-1 , the PSG phenomenal forward netted the winner in the 86th minute to show why he is one of the best goal scorers in the world.

The brace means Mbappe now has 7 World Cup goals in 9 matches played in two tournaments. France , who have had three players forfeit the World Cup before and during the competition ,  lead Group D on 6 points in 2 games played and have booked their Round of 16 place.

In the other Group D match , Tunisia were beaten narrowly by Australia thanks to Mitchell Duke’s solitary effort in Al Wakrah. The North Africans , with just a point after two games , contest their final group match against the impressive France who will be determined to maintain their hundred percent record going into the knockout round.

Meanwhile In Group C , Poland stopped Saudi Arabia who shockingly defeated Argentina on November 22nd. Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski assisted and scored to help The Eagles win their first match of the competition.

The former Bayern Munich man helped Piotr Zielinski to score in the in the 39th minute before turning goal scorer himself in the 82nd as Poland won by 2-0 ; a win that puts them in charge of the group on 4 points ahead of Argentina and Saudi Arabia who are on 3 points each.

Day Seven was wrapped up by Argentina’s 2-0 success over Mexico at the Lusail Iconic stadium. Lionel Messi finished the game with a goal , an assist and the official man of the match award. The PSG forward scored in his second successive game at the tournament as he opened the scoring with a terrific trademark shot from outside the box. Angel di Maria assisted him.

Three minutes from time , Messi then set up Enzo Fernandez to score the second goal for La Albiceleste. The former Barcelona playmaker has now taken his World Cup tally to 8 goals in 21 games played.

Matches for Day 8 :

Japan – Croatia at 10 AM GMT

Belgium – Morocco at 13 : 00 GMT

Croatia – Canada at 16 : 00 GMT

Spain – Germany at 19 : 00 GMT
