Black Stars Set Records in Qatar

Black Stars Set Records in Qatar : The Black Stars of Ghana defeated South Korea by 3-2 on Monday afternoon to register their first win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing to Portugal in their group opener.

Mohammed Kudus of FC Ajax netted twice including the match winner but before that , Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu had put Ghana ahead in the 24th minute.

After two matches played in Group H , the record books have to be revised as many of the Black Stars players have equalled past feats whilst other have set up fresh records.

GhanaSportsMarket.com provides the Top Eight (8) Records set by the Black Stars players at the on-going World Cup in Qatar :

1.Andre Ayew has become the only third Black Stars player to play at three different World Cup tournaments for Ghana joining Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari.

2.Andre Ayew became the only third Black Stars player to score a goal at two different World Cup competitions for Ghana ; he scored 2 goals in 2014 World Cup against USA and Portugal and netted one goal against Portugal at the 2022 edition in Qatar. Asamoah Gyan , scorer of goals at 2006 , 2010 and 2014 tournaments and Sulley MUntari – who scored in 2006 and 2010 – were the only record holders but now Ayew joins them on this list.

3.Osman Bukari became the second ever Black Stars player to score a goal for Ghana in his first World Cup match played when he netted against Portugal on November 24th. He thus joins Haminu Draman on this rich list. Draman netted against USA in 2006 in his first match played at the World Cup. Interestingly both Bukari and Draman did so as Red Star Belgrade players.

4.Mohammed Salisu has become the first Black Stars defender to score a goal for Ghana at the FIFA World Cup following his strike against South Korea on Monday November 28th. The likes of John Mensah , Habib Mohammed , Isaac Vorsah , Jonathan Mensah , John Boye and co could not have this proud record. Well , Salisu has it.

5.Mohammed Kudus became the first ever Black Stars player to score two goals in a single World Cup match. The Ajax playmaker did so against South Korea on Monday November 28th as Ghana won 3-2. The great Asamoah Gyan , Ghana and Africa’s top scorer at the World Cup on 6 goals , was never able to hit a brace at the Mundial.

6.Mohammed Kudus also became the only third Ghanaian player to score at least two goals in the same FIFA World Cup tournament. He joins Asamoah Gyan (who scored thrice in 2010 and twice in 2014) and Andre Ayew (who netted twice in 2014 and once so far in 2022).

7.The current Black Stars team in Qatar , 5 goals scored in 2 matches , have matched Ghana’s tally of goals in a single World Cup tournament. The team scored 4 goals in 4 games in Germany 2006 , 5 goals in 5 matches at South Africa 2010 and 4 goals in 3 games at Brazil 2014.

8.By beating South Korea 3-2 on Monday , the Black Stars have also scored at least three goals in a single World Cup match for the first time ever. Not even the great 2006 and 2010 squads could make their opponents pick the ball from the back of their net three times.
